Millstream to Karratha

It was 2 weeks ago that we left Mount Florance Station for Millstream National Park.  Millstream was a very pretty place, but we had been spoiled by Karijini so we only overnighted there. It used to be a working station, but some time ago became a national park with the homestead becoming the visitors’ centre.
We stayed at the campsite next to the homestead where the camp hosts said that we would see heaps of kangaroos, euros (small kangaroos) and maybe the odd stray cow.  When we went spot lighting that night we saw a couple of roos or euros (I can’t tell the difference!).

Our single night at Millstream was a long one.  A herd of cows decided to invade the whole camp!  They mooing, munching, crashing through bushes and made a racket from about 2am onward.  They were so loud that they sounded like they were right outside our camper trailer!  There were still a few around when we were having breakfast.

One of the highlights of Millstream N.P. was the fresh water pools alongside the homestead:
The other was Python Pool; a lovely place for a quick dip:
But it was time to leave the bush and head for the big smoke; Karratha.
So now it is over to Jack.

KARRATHA/ DAMPIER/ COSSACK/ POINT SAMSON

Well, Karratha is a big town, probably the biggest place we’ve stayed at but I don’t think there’s much to do. My favourite places were Hearson’s Cove and the Aboriginal carvings. Hearson’s cove was where the shark was in the movie “Red Dog”.
Karratha wasn’t such a touristy place, but I’m glad it had a McDonald’s (we haven’t had it for five weeks!) Dampier was an interesting place but we didn’t stay there or even park there for a few seconds except for, of course, to see Red Dog.
Now, no more photos of Dampier, of course, there’s more of Red Dog but I thought those ones were the best.

OK, Cossack, the oldest pearling town in Australia, but it really wasn’t much of a town; just a cemetery, some old buildings dating back to 1870, houses, a jail and a lot of remains of the old pearling town. A  few people were fishing in the creek that leads to the ocean.

All the buildings in Cossack were just white. It was a lovely old town. No photos of the buildings but a photo of the view from the lookout next to the cemetery.
Point Samson was a small place, population 400. We only stayed there for lunch at a wicked playground.  Dad and I had a kick of the footy and then off to the beach for a swim. Ella, Dad and I were trying to catch some fish in our net in the shallows. But were unlucky!!

Point Samson was a cute little town and would be an ideal place for a holiday house.

Karratha was a nice place especially because of its MACCA’S!!

Jack

Well done JR

We finished up in Karratha by catching up with Mark Murray and Rod McNabb for a beer (ATCs in Karratha Tower) and reprovisioning for our trip to Broome via 80 Mile Beach where, by all reports, the fishing is awesome!
